How do I import metadata?

Content in Studio has a variety of metadata attached to it that drives search, licensing, release, and more. Updating these fields in the UI is quick and easy, but if you need to change hundreds or thousands of fields quickly the metadata import speeds the process up tremendously.

warning

Metadata Imports allow bulk changes to most types of content in a workspace with a single file upload.

Use this powerful tool carefully!

Most fields can be bulk updated, while some are intentionally omitted. Additional fields will be added in a future release.

Press the Operations Icon

From the dashboard, press the Operations icon in the left menu.

Press the New Operation button

To start a new import, press the New Operation button.

Complete the New Operation modal form

Complete the following steps to start your data import:

  1. Select Import Content Metadata
  2. Title your operation
  3. Add your data file
    • Be sure to use a CSV file. xlsx is not compatible with the importer.
    • If you are having trouble uploading, try saving your document from a tool other than Excel like Googles Sheets, Numbers, or another CSV tool. (Excel tends to attach extraneous data to its files that can make the document incompatible with the importer).
  4. Press Submit

Confirm upload completion

Confirm your metadata upload completion in the status column. Large imports can take up to several minutes to process and you do not need to wait on this screen once the upload is finished. If your import fails check that the CSV file meets the recommendations in the previous step.
